Abortion In Obamacare

West Virginia

Names of Insurance Carriers and Their Elective-Abortion Coverage:

1.  Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield (10): No plans cover elective abortion (2021 plan documents).

2.  CareSource West Virginia Co. (11): No plans cover elective abortion (2021 plan documents).

Summary: There are 21 plans under two insurance carriers offered for 2021 on the West Virginia exchange. No carrier has left or entered the marketplace since last open enrollment.

For 2021, Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield decreased from 11 to 10 plans since the 2020 open enrollment period, and CareSource West Virginia increased plans from 8 to 11 since 2020. No plans on the West Virginia exchange cover elective abortions.

In 2019, there were 18 plans under two insurance carriers that both decreased the number of plans offered on the exchange. No plans on the exchange covered elective abortions.

There were 21 plans under 2 insurance carriers offered in 2018 on the West Virginia exchange, a three plan increase from 2017. No carrier  left or was added to the 2018 exchange. In 2017, CareSource West Virginia offered only plans that covered abortion on demand, but in 2018, it no longer provided plans that covered abortion.

While none of the plans in West Virginia cover elective abortion, please bear in mind that taxpayers in your state are still paying federal taxes that are used to pay for coverage that includes elective abortion in other states.

For example, an estimated 1.25 million Californians received federal taxpayer subsidies in 2014 and 96% of plans sold in California included abortion on demand. Between 2015 and 2024 an estimated $855 billion in federal subsidies will be used in every state to pay for Obamacare health plans, many of which include elective abortion.

Exchange is part of the Federally-Facilitated Marketplace (F) or State-Run (S): F
