Summary: In 2022, there are 29 plans offered by three insurance carriers on the Montana exchange. Of those, a total of 23 plans offered by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Montana and Mountain Health CO-OP exclude elective abortion. In October 2021, a law went into effect in Montana that prohibits any qualified health plan offered in its exchange from covering elective abortion; however, all six plans offered on the exchange by Pacificsource Health Plan state abortion is covered in their Summary of Benefits and Coverage documents provided on healthcare.gov. It is unclear how these exchange plans are being implemented at this time, but we will update this page when more information is available.
In 2021, there were 30 plans offered by three insurance carriers on the Montana exchange. Of those, a total of 20 plans offered by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Montana and Mountain Health CO-OP exclude elective abortion. Since the 2020 enrollment year, Montana Health CO-OP has changed its name to “Mountain Health CO-OP.”
For 2020, there were 30 plans available by three insurance carriers on the Montana exchange, a two plan increase from 2019.
In 2019, there were 28 plans available by three insurance carriers on the Montana exchange, a two plan increase from 2018.
In 2018, there were 26 plans offered by three insurance carriers, a three plan decrease from 2017. Montana Health Cooperative, whose coverage of elective abortion was unknown in 2017, had no plans that covered elective abortion in 2018.
